:: Attention Users !

Lately some lamers have been impersonating CService, and they are using a fake message saying that X will part Undernet, or CService database will be erased so type /msg *impersonating_nick* save User Password. If you see this message please ignore it, this people are trying to get your user and password. Do NOT type the command they say. Remember Nobody from CService will ever ask you for you password. So it's important that you ignore this lame messages and ban the person from the channel if possible !

This subject has been discused before, CService cannot gline or kline those users. IRCops may do that. Meanwhile, users should never-ever give their info to anyone claiming to be CService.

I hope you didn`t correct kid, because he is right. He didn`t refer to anyone claiming to be a CService member. Most of these "lamers" are using nicks like Cs3rvice, Cservice`, Cserv1ce, etc., which means they claiming to be CService. In this way users can be "fooled" easier; they will think that these "CService-nicks" is something like X, UWorld... and they are feeling forced to give their password. If thet wanted to "be" cservice members maybe they would used members` nicknames.
However i think no admin will ask a user for a passowrd or something..

You are absolutly right, the only thing to make this better is to inform users about this lamers... :)

Yes, I *DID* correct kid here. in fact I quoted his own words if you would look right.
Not even Cservice members need to know your password and should not even get it, they have other, overriding methods to edit user details as the admins they are. The only thing they do need to know is your username, and even that is only neccessary if you are not logged in at the moment for a specific reason, all other information can be requested in the webinterface or in the /msg X info <username> output which reveals certain information to cservice members as well.

This keeps the amount of information available to other visitors of the #cservice channel which are simple users low and further protects the information of a user.

Thus I also vote to change the greeting X produces on login to :
Quote:
Do NOT tell your password to ANYONE.

In this way maybe they will understand better. Cservice members don't need your password.

The important thing here is that users don't pay attention to the notice dosen't matter what it says.. :-?

/msg X@channels.undernet.org login <userid> <password>
-X- Remember: Do NOT give out your password to anyone. If you have read this type /msg X@channels.undernet.org ACCEPT kj2b34kj2h34j23b4ku2y34b
with the last token being random off course...

Ok, this IS solvable through scripting, but before that script is written they WILL have to read it to be able to code that script :)
And off course, without that ACCEPT command, they will be able to login, but won't be able to use commands in X :)
That should get there attention :)

well, it would force ppl to start consider what they are doing since they will be forced to read. If you got a better suggestion to start teaching ppl that they should not give out there passwords in any way, feel free to say it. But in my opinion this is an approach that might work.
