whell I really miss W too, And the curiosity is the man's vital element.
I think that its good to ask, to incursionate, to try to learn things, and know the phylosophical "why,where,when,how,what" of the things.
Btw, guys, I have 7 years on IRC and I cannot remember this:
Did exist in the pass some channels that had both X and W in the chan?

Yes, in the past, you needed to "login" in a certain channel..it was a bit complicated in those times, now there are less commands, and i guess it`s better this way

I asked a fellow coder about it, he is the one who put it up (im not going to give out his nick, but its easily found because he likes to talk through X (those of you who join coder-com frequently know who im talking about  )
He said he just threw W online to toy with (it was just a pseudoclient created with GNUWorld) No commands etc were bound to it, it was just a pseudoclient. (Testing reasons).
W is still dead, no worries 
oh, and yes after I mentioned it to him, he took it offline. Figures..
