When the new username idea came out and masked it everyone loved it! Even I thought it was great but now I realise it made life hell for most people.

The so called "Script Kiddie Hackers" didnt ddos the user directly nope, they ddosed the servers...

Perhaps a switch back to the old style might make things slightly easier.

Who cares if its "not secure" its not as if online banking transactions are done online and those who want to hide their ips can buy shell accounts...

Cheers

This forum is "How can we improve undernet?" ...

+ what Hyper^ said, lets go back million years, there was no polution, no guns, no aids, no bombs, no terrorism :)

Going backward is silly, so instead of that we need to go forward. What will happen if the +x mode is removed ?

All undernet users/helpers/opers will be target of ddos attacks, and YES the servers too. Why ? Because the script kiddies ddos for fun in frist place, they ddos if an oper gline their bots, they just like to feel powerful. So instead of an idea how to stop them, you give an idea how to make them feel more powerful (as everyone's IP will be visible) ? Your idea is like: " Script kiddies YOU WON! Now you may flood everyone, not just the servers! "

Best Regards,
Mit 8)

Going forward doesnt necessarily mean new ideas... IBM hello up in the past fired all its middle management then rehired them later as consultants.... Its what works best. UnderNet is under no obligations to protect its users from DDoS attacks. Any anyways there is probably 2 - 3 % of undernet users involved in this crap... the rest just came n chat. So let the 2 - 3 % fight themselves... takes the heat of undernet and as for cservice helpers... they are all a bunch of eediots... you might as well put up a FAQ page and tell everyone to visit that... you dont need helpers. You need policies and published guidelines and having a script that answers all the questions isnt really a cservice helper. Crappy customer support but when you complain they argue its our free time... well dont do if its your free time. So yeah going back to some old policies a bit refined will help. Those who know the stories know undernet grew very rapidly cos of dalnets collapse and efnets inability to remain stable...

Do you want to ddos someone? not everyone likes or can afford to buy shell accounts. Atleast not my cup of tea.
