what is the reset time on the "target change too fast" error, I know it varies from server to server but a rough idea would help so I can fix my auto-perform list

thanx :)

I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with low bandwidht mixed with many commands sent in short time.

2 minutes.
Quoting the features.txt from ircu's doc/, "This is to prevent spam. If you message more than 20 people or join more than 20 channels in two minutes then ...". You can use CPRIVMSG/CNOTICE to message/notice people in channels you're an op in. This also happens (well, at least, it used to happen) when servers are (were) lagged, but can't really go into details since I don't know them. :-)

Most likely you have a mIRC virus of some sort, under the form of a mIRC script which sends messages to people entering or leaving the channels you're in. You won't see those messages at all. Furthermore, some viruses like that can't be detected by regular antivirus programs, since they're not binary code but a bunch of commands in a text file. The viruses are pretty smart and if someone tells you that you have one, your virus will automatically ignore that person so you won't be able to hear from them again. Please join #virushelp or #dmsetup and they will walk you through detecting and removing the virus.

lol no, unless theres a virus which makes me feel like joining 30 channels on a regular basis (and about 4 logins) it isnt a virus.

however despite putting a whole load of timers with 210 seconds gap between groups (thats over 3 minutes without joining channels or sending any auto messages) I still end up getting hit by target change too fast.

funniest thing, the "20 targets" is thrown out the window too, my perform joins/msgs 7 targets (6 joins 1 message) waits 10 secs and does 3 more joins then 210 seconds later sends another 5 joins, however on the 3rd of those 5, I get a target change too fast error (note on this instance my client also responded to a ping sent to a channel)

the server this happens on is fairfax.va.us, any idea as to the specific settings on this server? and how does the reset time get affected by things like responding to a ping?

and no, I'm not infected with a virus before you say it :)

you also get a free target if someone msg's you, or invites you to a channel (you get the target of the person /msg'ing you or the channel you're invited into).

So login to your bots first, then get them to invite you into all your channels, *then* join them. problem solved.
