Yah really... getting onto IRC is trickier than running YIM... seems to me that attempting to duplicate 'features' from other nets/protocols/software will just bog the system down. E-mail is also a goodalternative; if you don't want to reveal your 'true' e-mail address, there are LOTS of places to sign up for an anon box. And when all else fails, use POTS or snail-mail.
Let me guess... someone from Dal.Net asked for this, right? (Dal.Net ran a msgserv bot for storing 'offline' notes and such).
