In the last week or so I've found any channels I access (using mIRC on Undernet) fail to update beyond one or two messages after I login. They just stay blank. I have not changed anything, and previously I had no problems seeing all messages on any channel. I use Windows Vista and I've even turned off my firewall. Any ideas? :(

um ...maybe no one is talking?

A firewall has nothing to do with "seeing" messages or text in a channel.

I assume by your use of "login"

that you mean when you join a channel.

Sometimes the answer is the most obvious.

No matter which channel I try (all have scores of logged-in users), I get one message, maybe none, then no more even if I leave it for hours. I've been using some of these channels for years and I've never seen this.

Make sure your colour settings are not preventing you from seeing channel text ...for instance you do not have text set to be white with a white background, black with a black background, etc. Click your colour icon and hit, "reset" to be sure.

I knew this would stump people. I've not changed text colour. I get one or two messages, if I post one it appears, but then it all stops permanently. If I log out then back in, the same thing happens.

Have you posted your question (after using the search feature for your problem) on the mIRC message boards? http://trout.snt.utwente.nl/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php

I'd look there for answers, myself.

Have you loaded any scripts, willingly or not?

Use command: /remote off

This turns off all scripts and see if you still have the problem.

That can be if he's using a bouncer in order to connect to undernet servers otherwise it can't as on each reconnection deaf mode will not be set unless it's set on perform list or it could be from the script he's using.

So if you're using a bouncer, make sure deaf isn't set. if it is, use /mode your_bouncer_nickname -d and that should do.

I'd never heard of deaf mode, or bouncers, until mentioned here, so I haven't consciously set it to deaf mode. I've now tried typing /mode <my nick> -d, but it'smade no difference. I still get a couple of messages (e.g. a channel message asking me to type !rules, which I can respond to OK), but then it all goes permanently silent.

How do I know if I'm using a bouncer?

psyBNC is an IRC network bouncer or BNC. psy is short for psychoid, the original creator of psyBNC. BNC is short for bouncer, a method of "bouncing" through a server to cloak your hostname. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PsyBNC

As about your issue, i'd strongly recommend you to get another script or better yet to reinstall the current one, something definitely goes wrong with the mirc client you're using.

my last gues would be that you modified the windows buffer size: alt+o -> Other -> in the Window buffer text input should be 5000 as default....
would be lot easier to just re-install or get a fresh new copy: http://www.mirc.com/get.html

Regards
