On connect, Undernet should send binary code for a picture displaying a number or a word... like on the web (@ subscriptions). I mean the irc server should ask confirmation from a human. That would certainly stop drones. The code for the picture could be sent in raw format and displayed by the client.

yes that seems like an effective way of stoping drones..but I think it would be very anoying for clients to have to type a stupid confirmation code every time :-?

"annoying" is out of discussion. Think about the new irc (safe, human-only, allowed by every isp, etc) that will come after this!

this is not enough to stop ALL the drones.. let's say the drones will send the code to the "owner" waiting a reply to send back to the server, not to mention that this would be really annoying :-?

Noone will send a reply to every drone of his for it to connect to Undernet!
The real problem is that there are proggies that get the text out of pictures.

I am currently testing out ircdefender on my own network. It links as server and also speaks the P10 protocol. Kinda buggy for a start but we are working on it.
Maybe some undernet coders with free time (*cough* rare animals !*cough*) could spend some time on perfecting it and incorporating it on the network. Has some nice modules which could make the network a little safer.

I really can't understand the purpose of the identd server in mirc... what a waste of resources!

Well, just because you don't understand it doesn't mean that its a waste of resources. It does still help admins identify compromised hosts etc to an extent.
Also I dont see the picture ID codes being implemented because
1) Some clients like to stay on 24/7, and a disconnection would prevent that until an owner returns (so logging needed events or whatnot might not be possible) (IE: if a channel was taken over and their client couldn't reconnect to log it)
2) It takes resources, and would continue to do so, for servers to generate and send images to clients (which takes the IRC protocol in general out of simplicity)
3) You can also forget about eggdrop or other legitimate bots (commonly used to assist official channels in doing their daily tasks)

However, I do work on IRCDefender and it is pretty good, but we still need to fix some bugs. OUTSider, if you want you can MSG me about that.

Just my two cents worth
