Hello...
I've been using Undernet for few years now, and IRC in general. Lately, I have changed my ISP to broad connection, and now connecting on cable.
My IP adress shows up everytime I connect, and everyone logging on IRC can see not just my real IP adress, but aslo my internet provider, my state and even to location of the server I am connection to which is pretty close to mine.
Since my IP is now premenant, I wish to hide it.
I do know there are proxy serves that allow me to connect and by doing so aquier their IP. It works fine with web sites, but IRC is set up differently than a PPP connection as far as I understand.
Can someone please tell me what are the prxy options I have, (I use win98, running recent version of mIRC), and maybe even if it's possible to connect to some sort of a proxy *right when the computer starts* so every connection I make is going throgh a proxy?
Thank you, looking forward for an answer..

Well, you could log in with your cservice-account, and then type
//mode $me +x
to get a hidden host on IRC that would keep your IP safe

What is that? How do I get it?
I still would like to know more about getting a proxy to work with IRC. Can you tell me where I can find resourced to learn more about it, or what should I do? As I said, I would like other application to run through a proxy as well so my I.P. will remain hidden.

hi,
to activate undernet's hidden host feature you'll need an USERname.
if you don't have your's already you may register it at:
http://cservice.undernet.org/live/
after you've registererd your USERname you'll be able to login to X by:
"/msg x@channels.undernet.org login yourUSERname yourpassword"
(for a complete list of X's commands take a look at: http://cservice.undernet.org/docs/ )
then type "/mode yourNICKname +x" and your real host will be replaced by yourUSERname.users.undernet.org .
if you do that before joining any channel or even before changing to your "normal" nick your ip should be quite hidden from normal users here on undernet.
using open proxies will most likely get you g:lined, read here:
http://www.undernet.org/proxyscan.php
if you've got any more questions feel free to join #help , #userguide or #cservice
sincerly,
Nemo

Ok. What you need is a BNC short for bouncer. It helps you chaned you ip address, either numeric or with a hostname. And its very popular in Undernet. Lots of people use vhosts (vanity hosts) to hide their ips. Is that what your looking for? If you want anonymity in the net. Login to a http proxy.

If you use mode +x you don't need a BNC

We do not and will not endorse the use of external IP spoofers. Faking your user@host information is strictly forbidden by our AUP (Accepted Use Policy). Remember that, by connecting to any server you agree with complying with the AUP and that individual server policies.
beholder, Nemo has described to you the correct procedure to get into the Undernet. If you would ever have any questions while connected, please visit #userguide or #help. Good luck and enjoy the Undernet
All my best
Carlos

I have a question on this issue. However, I do not understand technical computer jargon. I want to play #acro on undernet irc with my IP hidden for safety. However when I follow the instructions of: after you've registererd your USERname you'll be able to login to X by:
"/msg x@channels.undernet.org login yourUSERname yourpassword- then type "/mode yourNICKname +x" and your real host will be replaced by yourUSERname.users.undernet.org.
Ok I did all that and it worked fine.
HOWEVER, the problem is, when I play #acro with my IP hidden for some reason, it says my votes register, but they do not, so I am unable to get any points. Anyone have any ideas?
