First off, i use cservice, and i run through a proxy server when i connect to mirc, so i got sort of a double protection thing going on here.

my first question is, are irc proxies http or socks? or can they be either?

my second question is as follows:

i heard a while ago that even with cservice and proxies, that the nature of the /send and /chat commands will always reveal the senders ip and store it in a log file on the recievers end. is thier any truth to this, or are my attempts at being anonymous not all in vain? if i send a file to someone, is thier any way they can possibly get my real ip?

To answer your first question, they can be either.

For the second question, when you use DCC CHAT or DCC SEND the user you are receiving from or sending to can see your IP address. However, depending on your configuration they may be able to see the proxy address or your computer's address. If you are using mIRC you can select 'DCC' or 'Both' in the Firewall configuration to have mIRC initiate DCCs through the proxy. If you use this option the remote user will only be able to see the IP address of your proxy. Most clients by default do not log the IP address of dcc send/chats although it is possible to do.

hello there, well, If you're using CService as you said, the best way to hide your ip is using +x user mode.
Remember you need a username, http://cservice.undernet.org/live
Once your're logged in to X: /msg x@channels.undernet.org login username password
type /mode nick +x or //mode $me +x if you're using mIRC

when he tries to send a file "mode +x" can't hide his ip
